~ Orly Gumdrop vs Avon NailWear Pro Aqua Fantasy ~

I often buy polishes even lippies for that matter almost similar in color. To any normal naked eye they would look so similar one might think its waste of money but only addicts like me know that subtle difference and appreciate the beauty of even the look alikes and dupes.
Today am showing you two polishes which almost look similar but are hugely different from each other.

Presenting you, Orly's Gumdrop and Avon's Aqua Fantasy ...

Orly's Gum Drop ~

• The Gumdrop is a pretty looking blue color with undertones of pale mint. 
• Single coat is lil streaky while 2 coats gives a perfect opaque finish.
• Its creme formula makes it perfect for opaque finish.
• Brush is average like any other polish brand, need 3 strokes to cover the nail (for me atleast).
• Needs NO top coat (though as a ritual i do use topcoat for every polish i wear ^.^ )

Avon's Aqua Fantasy ~

• The Aqua Fantasy is a pale mint color with undertones of pale blue.
• Single coat is very streaky, needs 2-3 coats for an opaque finish.
• Its a creme sheen formula.
• Its super glossy and very shiny.
• Brush is average like any other polish brand, need 3 strokes to cover the nail (for me atleast).
• Needs NO top coat  (though as a ritual i do use topcoat for every polish  i wear ^.^ ).

So these are few things i observed!! This post is not to talk about which polish is best to choose, I  believe every color in every shade has beauty of its own  *.*

Orly's Gumdrop ~ Swatches

I had to take this one at any cost else for such mini bottle, the price is quite alot to even think of!!

And besides i felt the content in the bottle is not upto the brim like other nailcolors do.... well still the color is so amazing now i don't really mind about anything!!

Here's the swatches ~

Don't be mistaken by its innocent blueness in the pic, its more of minty than blue. While one coat can be lil streaky, 2 coats gave a perfect opaque finish. Besides i didn't need UV gloss guard or top coat for this. Now how awesome is that!!!!

So how much did you love this one???

I loved it soooooooo much!!

Some more Nailcolors...

I am a polish lover no doubt about it and i am always a game to try new shade, new brand and new style...

But recently i opted out of that routine thing and i ordered some classics and some fun colors.

Lakme in India is kinda classic nail color brand. Anytime in lakme you would find something for every Indian to try out for... Mauves, Purples, Pinks, Maroons and Reds are sort of staples and yet am glad to say its never so heavy on pocket to ignore or postpone for next order. I feel they have a color for everyone, every age group and never cease to disappoint, atleast me for sure!!

I have loved their Color Crush range but out of nowhere i went back to their classics again. I bought this beautiful 'Twilight Mauve' from Lakme. This was one of my fav colors some ages back...surprisingly its still is... no better ornament to fingers than pretty nails .. do you deny??

And i bought this pretty color ~ Orly's 'Gumdrop'. On swatching pretty much felt like vintage color to me, definitely not outdated but yes some oldy charm to it.... and need i say i am in *love* ???

Then this transparent raspberry pink(so i thought) oh no its definitely cherry color. Its Essie's 'Cherry Pop'. Yet to try this one, i was planning on getting my nails untinted first, by which i mean plain and healthy nails and try this one. Else am pretty sure the actual color would get killed somewhere....

Need i say i need some serious thinking to do to keep my nails healthy and untinted?? So much of color and hardly plain, i know my nails are taking a beating!! Sally Hansen, here i come.... need some retail therapy again to find solution for this..........

Any suggestions for me???

NOTW: YSL Inspired New Half-Moon Nails

Hey all! Here's another NOTW tutorial for you!  This manicure is inspired by YSL's AW 2010 nails seen on their models.  It is basically a French Manicure but instead of leaving the base nude and colouring just the tip, two contrasting colours are used to give it a whole new dimension.

I used different colours though I remained faithful to the purple bottom colour and I did an upside down half-moon on the tips rather than following the natural curve of the nails.

Here's the end result:

If you like what you see, grab two contrasting colours from your stash and let's get started!

1.  Start off by applying a good base coat.  This is always necessary but even more so when working with dark polishes so as to prevent the nails from getting stained.

2. Paint two coats of a base colour of your choice and leave to dry. I used elf cosmetics Party Purple.

3.  Now for the tips, you can either follow the usual shape of a French tip or else do like I did and use curved tip guides to create an upside-down half-moon tip.  Make sure the base colour is dry and affix the tip guides like so:

4. Paint on the second colour of your choice above the tip guide and allow to dry. Here I used Orly Dazzle.

5. When this dries, carefully remove the tip guide and you should be left with something like this:

6. To finish the design, apply a clear top coat and you're done!

Review: Orly Wrap & Tip Sponge Removal System for Natural & Artificial Nails

As you know, from my previous posts, I am currently taking a course leading to international qualifications as a gel nail technician.

On my first lesson, I managed to not put enough glue on one of the tips (oops :|) and consequently there was a huge air bubble. Having air bubbles trapped like that could mean the client could contract a fungal infection especially if she spends a lot of time with her hands in water doing house chores. This creates a moist environment which is perfect for fungi and certain bacteria to grow and multiply in.

Anyways, I asked my instructor to show me how to remove the tip and she produced this squarish bottle:

She asked me to put my model's finger in it and remove it after a couple of minutes. Basically, there is a sponge inside the bottle impregnated with a solvent that removes both artificial nails and nail polish from natural nails without causing any damage to the nails themselves and the surrounding nail wall. The client (or yourself) just has to insert her finger in the slit in the middle of the sponge and wait for a couple of minutes (seconds for nail polish) until the tip dissolves.

I decided to get one for myself and last lesson I bought one listen to this... for a mere €4 for 100ml!!! It's not at all costly is it?

So, on artificial nails I can say it works really well and the same goes for nail polish removal on natural nails. I was curious to try it and so I dipped my fingers one by one for like 2 or 3 seconds, only to lift them without any trace of nail polish on!! And the best thing is, I didn't experience any drying of my nails.

However, I just tried this once just to see how it works. I will still continue to use acetone-free nail polish remover and leave the product for my future clients.

I give this product my thumbs up and will definitely repurchase it!
