Treatment for Sunburn

And if you haven't been able to protect your skin from those harmful UVB rays and you got yourself a sunburn or a tan... Here's how you can salvage your skin ^^ And find out more about Sun Protection with Sunscreens here!

Treatment for Sunburn
Aloe vera has always been the first thing that comes to my mind when I get sunburn, because of its soothing and healing properties. As aloe vera gel contains lidocaine, it aids in sunburn treatment. However it can be very sticky or expensive (Jorubi is my favourite Aloe vera and it is about SGD19 per tube, check out my review here).

So how about trying out other natural remedies which can manage this task as well?~

Using standard black tea bags can help to soothe sunburns. This method was suggested by a nurse, and it is a great alternative home rememdy when you forget to apply sunscreen. So here are the steps to help you rid that painful sunburn~

All you need
Bathtub
Pitcher
Water
Rag
Three tea bags of black tea

How to
1. Fill the pitcher with warm water and soak the tea bags in it until the water is almost pitch black.
2. Soak the rag and apply it onto your skin
3. Most importantly, DO NOT WIPE IT OFF!

Leave the black tea to be absorbed by your skin. Re-apply if necessary when the black tea has been fully absorbed, but do not wash it off. Applying this before bedtime will give the black tea some time to work its magic ^^. Wash it off in the morning and the sunburn should have substantially subside or disappear.

Once you feel you have sunburn, make sure to apply the tea as soon as possible! It will allow the tea to be be more effective. Also, the combination of cool water and tea can help soothe the skin and speed recovery!

Make sure you don’t miss the most commonly missed spots when applying. What’s your go-to treatment when you’ve been out in the sun one too many hours long? Share it with me, so I can learn something too~ Fire away!!!

Sunscreens. Understanding Sun Protection.

Are you travelling to sunny areas, or has the weather turned warmer for you?

Cute Sun by Silverbtf

I know summer is here for some of you, so let us understand more about sun protection.  Also, a question that has always been boggling my mind: "Does higher SPF sunscreens work better?". If you have also thought or wondered about this matter, you're in for some myth busting and knowledge enhancement journey together with me!

So what is SPF?
It stands for "Sun Protection Factor", which is simply a laboratory measurement to measure the ability of a product to prevent sunburn compared to unprotected skin in similar conditions. Since sunburn is caused by UV-B radiation, SPF is a measure of protection against UV-B.

Does higher SPF = better protection?
According to an article by Steven Q. Wang, MD, higher SPF does not equate to higher protection against the sun.

Commonly Missed Spots
I came across this article by Jason Fitzpatrick which mentioned about commonly missed spots when we are slapping sunscreens on our body - and that is our feet! Especially those who love going to the beach to play with the sand.
Original Source
A common reason why sunscreens are not applied at the feet is because they dislike the feeling of sand stuck to their feet. But do not forget that our feet is equally at the danger of getting skin cancer or sunburn.

Acne & Sun
Sun exposure aggravates acne, thus you have to ensure you put on your sunblock and avoid sun exposure to keep acne at bay! The sun aggravates acne by causing breakouts, so make sure you choose a good zinc/ titanium based sunscreen. Applying a layer of mineral makeup daily may also help to avoid the sun's damaging rays.

Which Sunscreen?
Now you know the importance of sun protection? I will recommend the following sunscreens for all of you with different kinds of skins.. However bearing that the product may work differently for each individual~ with information from Dr. Jessica Wu, Hollywood Dermatologist.
For Oily or acne-prone skin
Look for oil-free sunscreen fluid that dries quickly and invisibly. And these can help your skin appear less oily and perhaps, even enhance the longevity of your makeup~
1. Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protection Cream SPF55 PA+++
2. Roche-Posay's Anthelios Mineral Ultra Light Sunscreen Fluid SPF 50
3. Kiehl's Super Fluid UV Defense SPF 50+

Normal to dry skin
Lotions or creams which are richer in texture, with hydrating ingredients like glycerin or hyaluronic acid are your to-get-sunscreens!
1. Shiseido's Extra Smooth Sun Protection Cream SPF 38
2. Kiss My Face - Face Factor SPF 30

Sensitive skin
Sunscreens with mineral ingredients such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are less likely to irritate your skin, unlike chemical ingredients.
1. Juice Beauty SPF 30 Mineral Moisturiser - contain's titanium dioxide
2. Dr Jessica Wu Cosmeceuticals Anti-Aging Sun Care SPF 32 - microfine sheer zinc oxide
3. Vanicream Sunscreen Sensitive Skin SPF 30 - with zinc oxide and titanium dioxide

Outdoor & Water Activities
Search for a water-resistant or water-proof formula
1. Jack Black Oil Free Sun Guard Very Water Resistant Sunscreen SPF50
2. MD SolarSciences Mineral Tinted Creme SP30
3. Sunplay SPF130 PA++
4. Fruit of the Earth Block Up SPF 50

[Korean Cosmetic Makeup Blogger / Lady Fox]Hera sun mate cooling mousse! Cooling Effect!

Summer is humid here in Korea
Hot and Stuffy
Sun is burning hot and heavy on my skin

It's all about sunscreen in the makeup world
and I have (yet another one) a sunscreen to introduce!

The reason I like this Hera sun mate cooling mousse is
because is brings your skin temperature down! (how cool!)

I love the fact it is
SPA 50 with PA +++ strongest sun protections out in the market
You know how you sweat in summer (oh come one everyone does!)
and the sunscreen just waters down with your sweat (ew)
and you end up lines of skin where the sunscreen is not applied?
XD

With this product there is no such worries~
sun mate cooling mousse came out as "WATER PROOF"
so all the water splashing in the summer
or all the sweat dripping down won't wash off your cream~

I long wanted something light and cool and less sticky product
that I can apply on my face and my body.

I don't cover up my all my skin in the summer (I'm sure you don't)
I wear hot pants and tank top and I don't want my legs and arms turn brown
when I start wearing bikini XD that would look....strange....

This product is PROVEN to have reduce your skin temperature
down 4.5℃ (40.1℉)

This is something I found amazing!
If you are well warmed from the strong sun rays this is something you'll need!

This is the tube, I think from the looks of it some kind of foam will come out

This product not only protects your skin from the sun but also has
Anti-Aging, Vitamin E, Antioxidant, Beta-carotene, Sun flower Oil
All the good stuff for your skin~

See? I told you so~
It DID came out as a some kind of foam,
One of my friend passed by and said "EWW what's that!"
If you thought this picture look disgusting surprisingly you aren't the first ones XD
(I thought it was cute am I weird?)

The Texture was very very soft and kinda like a pillow and no weight at all!
With this sun screen you can easily apply it after makeup and anytime on the day
because it is ABSOLUTELY light!

The color is bit skin color + beige
and bit of a scent but not that strong...I'm not sure what the scent is
All I can say it smells like a sunscreen XD

When you rub this on you can see water drops forming
and very very light so you can rub it on very detailed places
(between all the wrinkles and skin etc.)

When you use a strong protection sun screen
I hated....I repeat I hated the heaviness and the stickiness
I really hated it that's why it wasn't easy for me to have this
habit of apply sunscreen every 2~3 hour or so

Hera sun mate cooling mousse really became my favorite
I love how it steep into your skin
You can see how the light reflects!
I think it is because of all the moist

Review: Biore Aqua Rich UV Face Mousse

This has got to be my favourite sunscreen of the moment. I briefly mentioned this as my favourites a few months ago.. So here's the full review of this baby!

Biore's latest addition to their family, the Aqua Rich sunscreens. There are watery base kinds, mousse like one, as well as a gel type formula. I was recommended to try this out, and I bought it when there was a introductory price at Watsons, at SGD 16 (instead of usual price at $19.90).

Biore Aqua Rich UV Face Mousse Claimed Benefits:
  • SPF 50+ PA+++
  • Long lasting sun protection against UVA and UVB rays
  • Light weight
  • Hydrates and softens skin
Check out their list of ingredients here as well:

Squeeze the tube to release the product, thus keeping the product sanitary and hygienic. One thing great about their tube is that, it is soft and light.

When your product is finishing, you can simply snip it into half and find so much product left in the tube! Great saving xD

So here's the product out of the tube:

When swatched slightly, you can see how it really looks like the mousse we use for our hair haha. It has a very light and refreshing feel, as it is very watery.

It dries matte, and does not leave a white cast on my face.

So does it do what it claims?
YES. It is a very light weight sunscreen, that does not leave my skin feeling or looking greasy and oily. I really thank Biore, because this product leaves my skin MATTE. My skin is combination to oily type, thus I really need it to control the oil production.

The oily only starts appearing a few hours later, which is fine, because I know I can only delayyy the oil from showing.

The high SPF does not create a white cast on my face as well, though I feel that it makes my complexion brighter and more radiant.

And it does not aggravate or irritate my pimples, which is a huge plus point for acne prone skin people!

What can I say more... 5/5
I really love this product! I recommend it to all of you to try this out! If you have dry skin, I would suggest for you to opt for you to try this series as well, as it promises hydration. The slightly steep price for such a small tube does not deter me! Because I have been using it since March, and I am only halfway through the tube!
