The TNT Challenge is on!

An exciting new challenge has started entitled the "Total Nail Transformation Challenge" sponsored by ASK Cosmetics Inc. of Canada.

This photo shows the all the products included in the challenge kit, except the Skin Conditioning Milk and the Hand & Nail Cleanser were sent to the participants in the full-size bottle rather than the travel-size bottles shown here.

All participants will be applying the nailcare products provided by ASK Cosmetics for a period of 12 weeks.  In order to monitor their progress we have asked them to submit photos and a report each week.

Today I am very excited to share the first impressions which were sent to me by a nail blogger "Dragon Lady Nails" aka Kevan Johnson.

Her first update can be found in detail with fantastic photos on her blog page right here.

Kevan also wrote me a few lines describing her experience with the ASK Cosmetics products thus far and had an important question at the end:

I watched the videos on youTube about how to apply TIPS and how to use the Contour nail file. First off, I LOVE the nail file and most of the women in my family might just be getting one in their stocking for Christmas this year! After that I took your advice and use the TIPS for Toes to start. I did two coats about 30 minutes apart (before touching water). I was shocked at how fast the TIPS for Toes soaked into my nails and the surrounding skin. I was happily surprised that just one application actually soothed the raw skin and soreness of some of my torn cuticles and hangnails. I was amazed in the shower how it blocked the water from entering my nails and surrounding skin. I also used the hand and nail cleaner and conditioning skin milk. I loved how gentle they both were and how fast the skin milk absorbed and how light and non-greasy it was.

Improvements I have noticed in just 3 short days:

1. My nails actually feel stronger already – less flexible
2. No tears or breaks so far – I usually break or tear one at least once a day or so
3. None of my cuticles are hard, raw, or sore anymore and some of the hangnails have repaired themselves
I LOVE THIS STUFF! I can’t wait to take my Week 1 pictures on Friday and see the difference!! I have easily incorporated these small steps into my daily routine and am amazed at the difference already. I now do one application of TIPS for Toes after I drop my kids off at school, one during the day if I plan on my hands being wet for a long time (doing dishes, cleaning out the pond, bathing the kids, etc.), and one application right before bed so that my nails are protected if I get up in the middle of the night or forget first thing in the morning. Please let me know if there are any other specifics you would like to be getting in these weekly emails.
Also, I had someone ask me the life expectancy of the Contour nail file? She wanted to know how often they would need to be replaced. Thanks!
Sincerely,    Kevan Johnson   aka   The Dragon Lady    www.dragonladynails.com
Since the Contour Nail File by ASK Cosmetics is made of stainless steel it is extremely durable.  Some users report owning and using theirs for up to 20 years and it is still going strong.  It is designed to seal the ends of your nails with gently filing.  If the ends of your nails are sealed, they can't peel, chip or snag/catch on things like clothing or towels, etc.  This file does not fray the delicate ends of your nails and should be used several times each day to promote longer, stronger growth of your nails.  Life expectancy - most likely, forever!

Hope you are enjoying your day so far, Lisa M.

Best TIPS of Achieving Great-Looking Nails

Not too long ago I was asked to guest blog.  I thought long and hard about the most interesting topic that would both inform and help the readers, but then I realized why not write about something I know best, namely nailcare.  So, I am sharing it with you today.

Strong, flexible, naturally healthy nails can be yours for pennies a day
Most of us long to have gorgeous-looking hands and nails.  We spend countless hours, not to mention lots of money in our quest to have perfectly manicured nails, whether we pay regular visits to a salon or prefer the DIY mani/pedi in the comfort of our own home.  However, many people don’t realize that the efforts we put into achieving drop-dead nails may be the cause of some annoying, bothersome nail issues.  So, I would like you to begin a new nail adventure, involving nail care practices that promote stronger, healthier nails.  You will have to toss some old habits out the window and develop different ones to benefit the health of your nails.
·          Never trim, cut or push back your cuticles.  They play a vital role in protecting your nails and act like a seal while putting on the final, more densely compacted layer of skin.  Any stimulating, tampering or massaging of the cuticles cause them to grow down the nail resulting in those ugly, irritating hangnails.
·         Always trim your nails with good quality fingernail clippers or scissors; avoid shortening them by using an emery board or glass/crystal nail file, which are all abrasive and cause little, white shavings on the ends.  This is proof that damage has occurred and that there are microscopic tears in the nail fibre.
·         Avoid buffing, shining or filing the top surface of your nails as such actions can irritate the cuticles and remove the hardest, most protective layer on top.  You will only weaken the nail tissue by doing this.
·         Never file down the side edges of your nail.  They are like steel beams providing the stability and strength our nails require.
·         If damage occurs (splits, tears, peeling), always shorten the nail to remove all visible damage and start fresh.  Since damage and tears in the nails run much further than we can see, it is best to get rid of this damage before it goes too far.
·         Protect your nails against the #1 cause of dry, brittle nails – namely  water.  Nail tissue is very porous (imagine a sponge) and absorbs water very easily and quickly.  However, water evaporates almost as quickly as it is absorbed.  Most of us expose our hands to water quite frequently during the entire day.  This constant swelling and drying out of the nail tissue causes several nail problems:  dry, brittle, peeling, weak, splitting nails.
·         Remember to wear gloves when cleaning in or around the house as both water and harsh chemicals can be extremely damaging to your nails and hands.

ASK Cosmetics Inc., a Canadian company, introduced a lipid-rich nail treatment solution to the market more than 20 years ago.  TIPS Nail Conditioner has helped millions of nails regain their strength, flexibility, vibrant colours of pink and white while helping cuticles to recede naturally at the same time.

Shortening the length of your nails

Recently I was asked to do a YouTube video on how to properly shorten the length of your nails using nail clippers.  The video will soon be available for viewing, but in the meantime I have decided to describe the method we recommend.

These are my nails, which have become quite long.  It is getting challenging to do my computer work, so the time has come to shorten them a bit.  How do I take some length off while maintaining the strength of my nails?

Step 1:  Apply TIPS Nail Conditioner as you normally would around the cuticle area, over the entire nail plate and under the end of the nail as well.  As TIPS is absorbed immediately (providing your nails are completely dry having been out of water at least one hour!) it treats the nails and gives them strength, which helps to preserve the nail structure while clipping.

Step 2:  Always use a good quality pair of clippers that are sharp and up to the task.  Clipping should be done in three stages:  clip once from the inside, clip once from the outside of the nail and the final clip should be in the middle.  Attempting to clip across the entire nail will weaken the nail structure and compromise the integrity of it as well.

Step 3:  Once you have clipped all fingers, you should seal the ends of the nails and remove any burrs that might have occurred while clipping with the Contour Nail File.  This unique file has zero grit strength and is not at all abrasive, so it will not leave any of those little white shavings we have all experienced after filing.  It is designed to finish off the ends in a gentle manner in order to promote longer, stronger growth and to prevent snags or catches on clothing, etc. And with its three ultra-fine filing surfaces you can file the top and underside of the nails ever so gently.

Step 4:  This step is optional, but I find it leaves my hands with a wonderfully moisturized feeling and actually boosts the penetration of TIPS Nail Conditioner.  So, if you really want to spoil your hard-working hands treat them to a luxurious bit of hydration with the Revival Skin Conditioning Milk by ASK Cosmetics.
