Ello lovelies!
Following my "Go Big or Go Home" FOTD post i had a few emails and questions about how to get big, healthy voluminous hair. Over the years having massive hair has been my style of choice for nights out or when I'm feeling like making a bit more of an effort. But with my baby fine hair I've struggled to find products or techniques that help to do this without weighing it down. Now I'm no hair expert so when someone offered to share their expertise and write an article on Five Steps To Voluminous Hair, well i jumped at the chance! I love getting a bit of someone else's hair wisdom and being able to share it with you lot!
So if you're like me and get major hair envy when seeing women with a full head of voluminous locks, have a read of the post below and hopefully you'll find it as useful as i have!
Feel free to share your top tips in the comment box below!

Five steps to voluminous hair
1. Use a clarifying shampoo.
To get voluminous hair, you’ll have to start with a clean slate. Clarifying shampoo is the perfect way to do that because it washes away any possible product build-up, which will allow you to play up your hair’s natural shine and body. Or, if you don’t use a lot of product to begin with but are worried about the damage done by regular styling, try a restorative shampoo like John Frieda Luxurious Volume Thickening Shampoo that actually fills in gaps in the hair molecule left by over-styling and harsh environmental conditions.
2. Condition while it’s still wet.
Although it might be tempting to skip this step since you don’t want to use a lot of product, voluminous hair doesn’t mean that you want it to be dry. You can still get volume if you use lightweight products, so look for a conditioner that is made specifically for this purpose. Remember that your roots won’t need much, so focus on the midsection and ends.
3. Use a product with lift.
Many of the products that help volumise are meant to be applied right before blow drying. Remember to choose a light weight mousse or cream like one of John FriedasThickening Mousses and apply it to all of your hair, not just the roots. This will add shine as well as body.
4. Blow dry with the right tools.
Never start with soaking wet hair; it’s best to towel dry it a bit before you begin styling for maximum volume. Also, a round brush is a must if you want to create lift at the roots because you can use it to pull the root of the hair upwards, which creates bounce and body. Some stylists even like to blow dry hair upside down to create more drama. After you’ve blow dried your hair but before it cools down completely, apply large rollers to chunky sections to give it more dimension.
5. Pay special attention to the roots.
If you haven’t guessed it yet, getting great volume is all about the roots! Never brush your hair after styling for volume, or you’ll run the risk of it falling flat after a while. With the right products and the perfect blow drying technique, you won’t need more than a good run of the fingers through your locks anyway.
So, with the right products and techniques its really not as hard as it looks to achieve gorgeous, healthy, voluminous hair!
